14 junior doctors sacked in Techiman for embarking on strike

The doctors were sacked for failing to submit to training

About 14 junior doctors on training at the Holy Family hospital at  Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region have been let go after they failed to show up  for work.

The doctors at the hospital which is under the Christian Health Association of Ghana CHAG say they are on strike.

The Administrator of the hospital, Christopher Akanbobnab told Pulse.com.gh "people have been sent to us for training and the people say we don't want to work.

"So we have only written back to their employer who is Medical and Dental council to inform them that these people say they are unavailable for training and therefore we are releasing them to you for reassignment." He said

He emphasized that the doctors who have been let go are not part of their staff.

"They are not our doctors, we are a training center." he said.

About ninety one junior doctors went on strike and subsequently besieged the controller and accountant general's department. The salaries of the doctors have since been paid, but the junior doctors have since complained that with the absence of their senior medical officers who are also on strike they feel redundant.
