Trainee nurses paying bribes to get feeding allowance arrears

According to Daily Graphic, the situation is due to delay by Controller and Accountant General's Department to pay arrears due some final year students of the school. The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning gave financial clearance for the payment last year, but the CAGD is yet to pay the students.

Some staff members at the CAGD have consequently liaised with some middle men to exploit the trainee nurses.

The nurses pay fees around 500 cedis or 200 cedis to these middle men or syndicates, either through bank accounts or mobile money.

The syndicate then requests their staff numbers, picks them out from the CAGD's database and pays them their arrears at the end of the month, Daily Graphic has reported.

Authorities at the school have however taken notice of the dealings and have warned the students to desist from such acts, as it promises to follow up to get their arrears paid.

Meanwhile, the Director of Payroll at the CAGD, Mr. George Baah has told Daily Graphic that processes for payment were completed last year, adding that students who have any complaint should channel them to his department.
