Mahama charges new governor to work closely with finance minister

President Mahama particularly requested Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku to join forces with Seth Terkper “to ensure that both fiscal and monetary policy will continue to be on track”.

The newly appointed Governor of the Bank of Ghana has been tasked by President John Mahama to work hand in hand with the Finance minister Seth Terkper to enhance the country’s economic growth.

President Mahama made this known at the Flagstaff House on Monday, April 25 when he swore in the new governor.

Dr. Issahaku who was the former second Deputy Governor, was named as successor of Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah, who proceeded on leave at the end of March 2016.

“We will encourage you to discharge your duties,” President Mahama stressed.

“You have already been working as part of the team since we went into the extended credit facility of the IMF.

Dr. Issahaku was sworn in together with Dr. Johnson Asiama, who was recently appointed a Deputy Governor to replace Dr. Issahaku.

The new boss of the Central Bank insisted that their focus will be on stabilizing the economy in general.

“As a Central Bank Governor, I think our focus remains stabilizing the macro economy because we recognize that this is highly essential for economic growth and sustainable development.”

He observed that the Bank is already making progress in terms of downing inflation rate.
