A barber has been jailed 20 years for defiling a seven-year-old primary schoolgirl at Mallam.
A 28-year-old barber has been jailed 20 years with hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court for defiling a seven-year-old primary schoolgirl at Mallam in Accra.
The convict, Alfred Nyarko, alias Ogyam, was said to have lured the little child who was returning from school into his barbering shop and forcibly had sex with her at about 4 p.m. on June 8, 2015.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was sentenced on his own plea by the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu.
Prosecuting,Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Sarah Acquah told the court that the complainant, Matilda Marfo, the mother of the victim, lived at Mallam in Accra with her daughter.
She said the accused was a barber who also lived in the same area.
At about 4 p.m. on June 8, 2015, the prosecutor said, the victim was returning from school when the accused called her into his shop and had sex with her on a mat.
A five-year-old child spotted them when she peeped through the window of the accused’s shop and went to inform the mother of the victim.
ASP Acquah stated that the accused sensed danger and took to his heels but was pursued and arrested.
According to her, the mother of the victim reported the case to the police who gave a medical form for the victim to be taken to the hospital.
“The medical report showed that the victim was defiled,” the prosecutor added.
