Deputy Curtis Stuteville, of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Leonard Patrick Ramsey Jr., 39, of Zebell Street in Nebo, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious injury, McDowell.com reports

“They were in a verbal argument and it escalated to the point where the son was shot. We conducted an investigation Sunday night and were unable to locate the father or the weapon,” Smith said. “The following day, he was taken into custody without incident.”

The gun used in the shooting was a 12-gauge shotgun, according to Smith, who added that the ammunition used was birdshot.

Ramsey III was transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries.

Ramsey Jr. is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
