We rob because politicians are stealing huge state resources - Robbers vow to resume when freed

Normally, when suspected criminals are arrested by the police, most of them exhibit calm posturing knowing that they have found themselves in the arms of the law. However, two armed robbers who were arrested by the Niger State Police Command in Nigeria did the exact opposite.

Bello Mallam, 18 and Shehu Buda, 20 were arrested in Talba Estate, Bida after they reportedly robbed one Mohammed Mohammed of the sum of N7,400 and two handsets valued at N9,000.

They further inflicted severe machete wounds on him for attempting to prevent them from raping his daughter.

After their arrest, the two young men are reported to have bravely and unrepentantly told the police that the economic hardship in the country, coupled with the wanton embezzlement of state resources by politicians left them with no option, but to rob people.

Amazingly, they told the police bluntly that as soon as they are freed from their custody, they will quickly resume the robbery.

One of the suspects, Shehu Buda said: “Many people are stealing in the country, including top government officials. People are dying of hunger and there is no job.”

“What else do you expect me to do other than stealing? If am discharged by the police, I will still go back to rob people. The country is in a bad situation.”

Meanwhile, the police are in the process of arraigning the suspects for court.
