Nine members of the Moment of Glorious Prayer Army (MOGPA) including a pregnant woman and little girl at Abrankese near Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region met their untimely deaths when one of their buses ran into another.

In an interview with Daily Guide Fomena District Police Commander, Supt Richard Anaba Salifu, said the dead were made up of four males and five females.

According to him, several others sustained life threatening injuries in the accident that occurred around 6am, and they were taken to the Bekwai Government Hospital and the Fomena Health Centre which referred them to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment, reported

The prayer army was struck by the tragedy after a watch night service at the Abrankese stadium on Friday, while its members were travelling back to their various destinations, the police commander added.

Supt Anaaba said the deceased were among hundreds of worshippers from Obuasi and Cape Coast, and two of them died on the spot.

He explained that the accident occurred when the driver of the Hyundai bus lost control of the vehicle after a brake failure, and rammed the bus into the rear of a Sprinter bus registered AW 6225-13 ahead of him, while descending the Kusa hill cap at Fomena.

The police chief narrated that the Sprinter bus driver had stopped behind a broken-down articulated truck, waiting for an oncoming vehicle from the opposite direction to pass when the incident happened.

There has not been any official statement from the prayer movement popularly known as MOGPA.
