After her bouquet catching became a running joke with her friends and family, Jackson decided to make it an official world record.

Jamie Jackson, from Utah, who has made a hobby out of catching wedding bouquets has applied to the Guinness World Records.

Jackson who lives in Salt Lake City says she has caught 46 bouquets since 1996 and has documentation to prove it.

The current record of 11 bouquets caught by Stephanie Monyak of Pennsylvania has stood since 2004.

Jackson told KSL that she gets invited to a large number of weddings because her family makes a lot of connections through participating in musical theater and through their church. She estimates that she has attended between 80 and 100 weddings over the years.

"It is something that you have to plan for and you have to be very strategic where you place yourself," she said. "My strategy is to be right up in the front because a lot of time the brides don't know how far they are going to throw it.

"A lot of times it will hit a ceiling, it'll hit a chandelier ... I've had many, many catches where I've had to jump for it. And I've hit little kids by accident."

"Back in 2004, this girl Stephanie out of Pennsylvania, she made it an official record and she had 11. And I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I have 35.' I was like, 'I have to break this record.'"

Jackson began the process of submission for the Guinness World Record and by August, 2014, had caught 46 bouquets.

She then contacted all the brides whose bouquets she had caught to ask for the official documentation and photos she would need for proof to apply, and submitted the official application on Wednesday.

She said she was happy to learn that 44 of the 46 brides were still married.

"I consider myself a good luck charm," Jackson said.

Jackson has dispelled the myth that a woman who catches a bouquet will be the next to get married. She said some people joke that she's purposely staying single to catch more bouquets, but she assures them that is not the case.

"It's just been a fun process over the years," she said.
