Nigerian couple in trouble over health care, British Passport fraud

A Nigerian couple in the UK has been indicted of a fraud crime after registering the baby of a Nigerian immigrant as theirs.

30 year-old Oluwaseun Adenubi pleaded guilty to false representation after using the passport of her friend, another Nigerian, Rita Ogunkunle to obtain free medical care for her son.

Oluwaseun Adenubi allowed Rita Ogunkunle and her boyfriend who are  Nigerians with British passport to register as her new baby's parents in bid to get free NHS care and secure a UK passport for the child.

The couple Rita Ogunkunle and her boyfriend Michael Adebambo, registered the baby as theirs at Bromley Civic Centre the following day. The couple have also pleaded guilty to giving false information.

Oluwaseun was also using Rita’s passport to receive free medical care and was caught when Staff at Farnborough's Princess Royal University Hospital realised the medical records of Ogunkunle was different from the patient-Oluwaseun- claiming to be her.

“Maybe there was a motivation to secure the nationality of the child as a British citizen and free NHS treatment. After the baby was born on June 20 staff realised something was not right because Ogunkunle has severe scarring, which the baby's mother did not have and there were two different blood types for the same patient,” Prosecutor Alexandra Bushell told the court.

Adenubi has a family visit visa which allows her to stay in the UK for up to six months.

Judge John Tanzer said: "The probation service think this is a Nigerian plot to use the 'International Health Service' and then take further advantage."

All three were bailed until a date to be fixed.
