Man Weds His Wife In Jail

Imagine after you said “I do” you don’t get the chance to kiss you bride, cut you cake or go on your honeymoon but rather wake into a 10 years jail sentence

A Wyoming man's "I do" wasn't followed by a kiss, cake or honeymoon but a prison sentence for an August crime spree.

A 25 year old Wyoming man, IsraelSilva, wore an orange jail jumpsuit and shackles when District Judge StevenCranfill wed Silva and his girl friend Ivy KoryneSmith, 19, of Powell in a Cody courtroom last week.

"There will be no, 'You can kiss the bride,' or whatever they say when people get married," Silva's defense attorney, Sarah Miles, said before her client's impromptu wedding on Feb. 11 in Park County's District Court.

Smith stayed 15 feet away from Silva to comply with the jail's "no contact" rules, the Powell Tribune yahoo news reported.

The ceremony lasted for about a minute, and the judge directed them to take their seats for Silva's sentencing hearing.

Cranfill sentenced Silva to six to 10 years in prison for a drunken crime spree in which he stole and crashed two pickup trucks used a gun he found in one of the pickups to fire shots at other vehicles in Powell and led officers on a chase that reached speeds of up to 110 mph.

The chase ended when Silva ran over irrigation pipe and got stuck in a muddy barley field.

At the time, Silva was free on bond on a misdemeanor charge.

Silva pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, property destruction and a third conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol. Other charges were dismissed.

Silva disputes the county attorney's arguments that he owes nearly $46,000 in restitution for damage to the vehicles. A restitution hearing will be held later.

Silva has been jailed since his arrest on Aug. 24, and he will be given credit for the six months he has already served.
