Fresh Boy Gang Member Arrested
Thirty-eight year old member of the fresh boys robbery gang who allegedly terrorised students of the University of Ghana, Legon, in Accra has been arrested.
The suspect is said to have emerged from the bush with an accomplice and ordered the two students, a male and a female, to surrender their valuables at gunpoint, after he had snatched the lady’s handbag.
In the course of the struggle, Agordo shot the male student in the thigh.
Agordo’s accomplice, who is yet to be identified, is on the run.
The leader of the gang, Atta Kofi Kyei, alias Freshboy, 18, is said to have instigated the new attack after he had been incarcerated to serve a 20-year jail term with hard labour.
Kyei was arrested on January 10, 2015.
Agordo is said to have told the police that he had launched that attack to raise money for an appeal the judgement against his friend.
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Legon District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mrs SavourFleischer Ackon, said the gang had been taking advantage of the outages to terrorise students when they closed from lectures or group studies in the night.
Mrs Ackon said Agordo was arrested from his hideout through intelligence gathering on March 22, 2014, after the two students had been attacked about 10 p.m. on March 18, 2015.
The suspect and his accomplice made away with GH¢200, three mobile phones, two laptops, and the lady’s handbag containing her purse and her passport.
The traumatised female student, with the assistance of some good Samaritans, managed to transport her male course mate to the Legon Hospital, after which she made a report to the police.
The police retrieved all the items belonging to the students, a locally made gun and three live cartridges
