Jobless man, 39, faces attempted murder charge

A Badagry Chief Magistrates' Court has remand a 39-year-old man in jail for alleged attempted murder.

Imprisonment.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of attempted murder.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused had on Feb. 26 committed the offence at Itire Bus Stop, Ilogbo, Badagry.

He said the accused attempted to kill a man, Rasak Akande, by using dangerous weapons to injure him fatally.

“For no reason, the accused saw the man at the bus stop and started attacking him with some dangerous weapons.

“The man is still in the hospital where he is receiving treatment.”

The offence contravened Section 228 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Jude Obonna, pleaded with the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, in his ruling, ordered that the accused should be remanded in Badagry Prison till the next adjournment date.

Further hearing has been fixed for April 10.
