The Ashaiman Divisional Police unit has arrested a 25-Year-Old taxi driver, who allegedly hired assassins to kill his girlfriend, Zenu near Ashaiman

According to Daily Guide reports, The suspect, Benjamin Kofi Aboakye, was said to have stormed the home of the deceased together with two other accomplices at dawn on Valentine’s Day (February 14) and allegedly abducted his lover, Mabel Borley Borketey, a 30-year-old trader, to a nearby bush around the Zenu dam site where she was murdered.

According to information gathered, Borketey absconded from the home of Kofi Aboakye at Michel Camp in the Kpone-Katamanso District recently to rent an accommodation at Zenu. A source reveals that the lady’s decision was premised on an allegation that the suspect often inserted her finger into the private part of her (Mabel’s) nine-year-old daughter and subjecting her to severe beatings.

Aboakye was said to have taken offence in the separation and allegedly hired some people (who are currently on the run) to kill the lady, who hailed from Nungua, a suburb of Accra.

The almost decomposed body of Mabel has been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy, while the suspect is assisting with investigations.

Superintendent William Daah, the Crime Officer of the Ashiaman Divisional Police headquarters, who confirm the news to the Daily Guide said that at dawn on Valentine’s Day, the suspect, together with two men wielding machetes, went to the home of the deceased at Obaatan near Zenu.

The suspects, he mentioned, continued to knock at the door of Borketey and when she opened the door she was grabbed and marched away, leaving her nine-year-old daughter behind.

According to Superintendent William Daah, on the following day, the woman did not return home, thereby raising eyebrows which compelled some neighbors to mount a search for her.

Upon information, the police officer said, Benjamin returned to the house to pick some items of the deceased and his stepdaughter to his place when he was arrested by co-tenants and some neighbours.

He was handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of kidnapping. He said during investigations, Benjamin sent the police to different locations, but Mabel was not found.

On Monday, February 16, 2015 at about 4:00 p.m., police received information about a dead body near the Zenu Dam. It was identified as Mabel Borketey.
