Child bride accused of murdering husband to be released

Prosecutors in Wasila Tasiu’s case have terminated the suit against her so she will no longer be tried for the murder of her husband, Umar Sani.

A 14-year-old girl who was accused of murdering her husband with rat poison in Kano State has had the charges against her dropped.

Prosecutors in Wasila Tasi'u’s case have terminated the suit against her so she will no longer be tried for the murder of her husband, Umar Sani.

The application to end the case was presented by Prosecutor Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki before the High Court in Gezawa, Kano state.

'With a heavy heart, I apply that the accused be discharged,' he said.

Sources have it that the case was dropped due to pressure from human rights groups around the world.

Wasila had supposedly confessed to murdering her husband with the poison because she was tired of being married.
