460 people who were aboard the Air France service to Paris landed at Manchester at 11.30am on Sunday, February 23 but were not allowed off until around 6pm.
Passengers of New York to Paris flight stranded in Manchester for 7 hours
Passengers on a plane diverted to Manchester from New York were left stranded on board without food and water for seven hours
According to, the flight had been delayed from taking off by around four hours at New York while queuing to be de-iced.
It meant the plane’s pilot would have exceeded his flying time before getting to Paris, so the flight diverted to Manchester instead.
It was even more frustrating for British passengers, who were initially told they would have to continue to Paris and then fly back to the UK.
Air France had originally told passengers it would send a new crew to fly the plane on to its destination.
But while pre-flight checks were being carried out a technical fault was then discovered in the cabin.
The airline then said it would fly three extra planes over the collect passengers - but these took hours to arrive.
After being eventually let off the plane, the passengers were taken to a waiting room near departures, where they were served burgers.
Many of the passengers took to Twitter to vent their frustration on Twitter, calling it “an awful experience” and “the worst flight experience of my life”.
