17-yr old appears in court over bomb plot

The unnamed teenager had been arrested in a raid on his home in Melbourne's northern suburbs on Friday.

A 17-year old boy who was earlier arrested in Melbourne, Australia for allegedly planning a bomb plot has appeared in a children's court charged with terrorism offences.

According to BBC, police detonated 3 homemade bombs when they arrived at his house. Police however said they were unable to confirm what the target for the alleged attack was.

He was subsequently  charged with engaging in an act in preparation for, or planning a terrorist act and possessing things connected to a terror plot.

He was then placed under custody and  did not apply for bail, and he is due to face court again on 26th May. In the meantime, none of his family appeared in court with him today (Monday).

Local media reports that he had dropped out of school and posted radical statements on social media.

In related arrests last month, 5 men were also detained in Melbourne, for allegedly planning an attack on an Anzac Day ceremony.
