The teenager’s former foster mother, Sonia Jones said “He hated the fact that his son was gay.
“I’m sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son.”
Sonia Jones revealed that Wendell had pulled a gun on the deceased before, when he caught him with a boyfriend.
Reports say the police arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call and found the 14-year-old boy in a life-threatening condition and then rushed him to St Rose Dominican Hospital for treatment, but he died as a result of the severity of the injuries he suffered.
According to Daily Mail, Wendell Melton was arrested on Friday and placed in the custody of Henderson Detection center.
He has been slapped with initial charges of open murder, child abuse and prohibited person possessing a firearm. It isn’t clear if he will be charged with a hate crime.

Giovanni’s death has agonized most people who knew him, especially his friends who shared fond memories of him.
A high school friend of Giovanni said “he was young and had a lot to live for.”
Meanwhile, foster mother Sonia Jones stressed that “I hope they throw the book at him.”
