A 26-year-old man has been lynched to death at Akropong Wasa in the Western Region for allegedly breaking into the room of a Chinese to steal gold, a local reporter with Kasapreko FM, Prince Obeng Nframa, has told Pulse.com.gh.

Obeng Nframa said it follows recent spate of killings in the area by armed robbers on people suspected to be in possession of gold, especially taxi drivers carrying white passangers.

In recent days, five drivers have been killed, he said, adding that the youth in the area decided that they have had enough of the killings so they will police the community themselves.

The deceased is said to had threatened to gun down anyone who makes a move to arrest him after he stole gold from the Chinese national.

Obeng Nframa narrates that he was overpowered by some young men, beaten and burnt to death.

His body has since been deposited at the Wasa Akropong hospital mortuary.

No arrest has been made yet, he said, adding that the police in the Wasa district are overwhelmed by the recent killings.
