Senior military officer commits suicide to escape investigations into alleged corrupt acts

Local media reports suggest that Zhang Yang allegedly hanged himself so as to escape investigations into corruption allegations leniently referred to as serious disciplinary violations.

A 66-year-old senior military officer with China’s Central Military Commission has committed suicide after authorities have launched investigations into some corruption scandals hanging around his neck.

According to the Xinhua news agency, Zhang Yang was being probed over his links to fallen military officials, Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou.

Local media reported that Zhang Yang took his life on November 23 following initiation of the probe into suspected corruption, which has been leniently described as serious disciplinary violations.

A source close to the former Guangzhou Military Command has reportedly told the South China Morning Post that Zhang had hanged himself at his home in Beijing.
