Police gun down notorious robber after years of eluding capture

A notorious armed robber who had been tormenting the people of the soun=th western parts of the country has been shot dead by the police in Osun State.

A notorious armed robber who has eluded the police in the south western parts of the country for years met his doom on Monday, March 16, 2015, in a fierce gun battle with men of the Osun State Command.

The command, in a statement, said the dare-devil robber simply identified as Abbey, had been on the wanted list of most police formations in the zone after he had carried out numerous robberies and killed many policemen.

But he could not stand the fire power of the police team when they stormed his hide-out in the Modakeke area of the state and in the shootout that lasted over 30 minutes, the gangster was felled.

The statement adds that Abbey was responsible for all highways and bank robberies which had claimed the lives of many innocent people in the state in the last few years.

He allegedly laid siege to the Akure-Ilesha Expressway to rob passengers of their belongings after frisking them from head to toe.
