27-yr-old man in court over alleged theft of rice

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 14 at the Seme border area of Badagry.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

He said the accused took the bags of rice under the guise of helping the owner.

“The accused offered to help the complainant to carry the bags of rice to the latter’s store but he took off with the rice.

“He was caught while trying to sell the bags of rice in another store,’’ he said.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till June 29, for further hearing.
