Court arraigns 3 men for intentionally setting vehicle ablaze

The trio have been charged with a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and unlawfully setting fire on the vehicle.

The Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Ogun State has arraigned three men for intentionally setting a jeep ablaze after it hit a motorcycle.

According to the Daily Post News, the trio, Owolabi Usman, 19; Atapako Hameed, 30; and Adekunle Segun; 48 were walking by when the accident occurred but decided to take laws in their hands.

Inspector Sunday Eigbegiale, the prosecutor on the case disclosed that the men committed the crime on Wednesday, February 1, 2017.

They have now been charged with a three-count charge of conspiracy, causing breach of peace and unlawfully setting fire on a jeep estimated at 6 million Naira.

“The driver of the jeep had hit a motorcycle when the trio who were passing by at the time of the incident took laws into their hands and set the vehicle on fire with others still at large,” Eigbegiale told the court.

Their offences contravened Sections 443(A), 516 and 411 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

Following their not-guilty plea, Oriyomi Sofowora, the Chief Magistrate of the court granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with sureties paying like-sum.
