Dandruff is one of the many hair disorder which affect many people. Some women with dandruff usually resort to the use of expensive shampoos from the various cosmetic shops but yields no results.

Dandruff is mostly the results of dry scalp, or a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis which is caused by eczema or an overgrowth of a yeast like fungus called malassezia.

However, in severe cases, one is advised to seek help from a professional.

Apply nim leaves to your scalp

The leaves of a nim tree is a good natural home remedy to treat dandruff. It relieves itching. Add nim leaves to a bowl of hot water and allow to soak overnight. Rinse your hair with the water. You can also make a paste out of the soaked leaves, apply to your scalp and allow to settle for an hour or two before washing it with water. You will have to brace yourself for the smell that follows. Despite the overwhelming smell of nim leaves; it provides an amazing result.

Salt your scalp

I bet you didn’t see that coming. Salt is something we use every day but did you know that it can be a home remedy to get rid of dandruff? Though salt is known to be coarse it actually feels relieving especially if you have an itchy scalp. Carefully massage salt solution into your scalp for 2 to 3 minutes and shampoo immediately.

Baking soda is another option to consider

Baking soda can help you nip dandruff in the bud. That is because it contains alkaline which eliminates dead skin cells by acting as a mild exfoliant and also helps in controlling oil secretion to the scalp. Wash your hair with warm water, add a few drops of baking soda and mix to form a paste and apply it on your scalp by massaging gently for about 5 minutes. Wash immediately with water or shampoo. You can repeat it to achieve results.

Lemon/Lime

Lemon contains lots of vitamin C and also contains acid which deals with dandruff. Squeeze lemon or lime juice and apply to the scalp or rub it directly to your scalp and leave for ten to fifteen minutes. Rinse with water. You can repeat this method once every week for the desired outcome.

A drop of tea tree oil works magic

With a wonderful smell (unlike nim), tea tree oil is one of the greatest home remedies for treating dandruff. Apply a little amount to your scalp and leave it on for 5 to minutes and rinse with water. For quick results, repeat 2 to 3 times a week. People with allergies should use shampoos with tea tree oil instead.

Aspirin

Though not a home remedy Aspirin comprises of the same active component as many medicated dandruff shampoos.  To use, crush two or three aspirins to fine powder and mix with a shampoo. Apply to scalp and leave on for 1 to 2 minutes and rinse with water.

Try the mouth wash

Mouth wash has anti-fungi property which helps prevent dandruff-causing yeast from growing. Treat a severe case of dandruff with a mouth wash. To apply, first wash your hair with regular shampoo, rinse with an alcohol based mouth wash and finally rinse with water.

Apply aloe vera

When experiencing an itchy scalp due to dandruff massage a hand full of aloe vera in to your scalp before shampooing to soothe the itching.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is said to be the best to apply to hair. Massaging 10 drops of olive oil in scalp and soaking overnight will give you the deserved results. Wash with a regular shampoo and rinse with water. Purchase an olive oil based shampoo for a quicker result.
