On her part, a former contestant and CEO of Exclusive Events Ghana, Inna Maryan Patty expressed her excitement at the impact the program has made over the years in ensuring that young, beautiful and intelligent women are empowered to contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse.com.gh, Ms Inna Patty explained how the 2017 event will be different from the previous editions.

According to her, “this year is going to be a special one because it is not a celebration for or by Exclusive Events but it is a celebration of the country.”

“I urge everyone’s input into Miss Ghana 2017 because it will be a magical experience and hopefully we will beat what was experienced in 1957…it is 60years and we are in the 21st century so it is going to be exciting.”

She added: “We would be communicating subsequently as to what the details of the package or experience of the 60th anniversary will be… It is the diamond jubilee.”

When asked why the organisers seem to abandon the queens after their year of reign, Ms Patty said that most of the queens are students and therefore have to return to school.

“The entire contestants we work with are students and at the end of the day, when they take a year out of school, naturally they are supposed to go back and continue, and as a brand that we believe in women empowerment, we do not compromise on education.”

She continued: “We encourage all of them to ensure that once they are done with that one year of giving back to society, you must go back to school developing yourself. How can you impact society when you yourself have not empowered yourself. That is why you do not hear of the queens when they are done but eventually, they are doing well in their distinguished fields of endeavor. Miss Ghana is not just about showbiz, where you finish and you are continuing with showbiz.”

Meanwhile, Madam Afeku on her part acknowledged that the massive endorsement of this year’s Miss Ghana edition by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, shows the importance the state attaches to the celebration and the endeavor to showcase the purposeful beauty of the Ghanaian woman.

“I think it’s a laudable project because it is up to task,” she said. “Myself, the Deputy Chief of Staff and others will get down working and ensuring the success of Miss Ghana @60. Mobilizing for the future, 60yrs and beyond is a testament to the president's commitment to the purposeful Ghana that we all have and a Ghana with a social cohesion.”

She, however, appealed to corporate bodies to support the project.

Present at the launch were Ghana 60 years on Anniversary Chairman of the Media and Branding Sub-committee- Jefferson Sackey, Chief Director of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Past Miss Ghana Beauty Queens/Mr. Ghana.

Miss Ghana beauty pageant was first started by the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1957 as an initiative to offer the “Independent” Ghanaian woman a platform to positively impact society.

This year’s event dubbed "Total beauty with a purpose" will commemorate the country’s 60th-anniversary celebration.
