'Daddy Lumba never flopped' - Roro debunks claims

Rumours suggested that the Aben Wo Ha hit maker’s performance was not only the issue for concern but the attendance at the National Theatre.

Daddy Lumba never flopped, says Roro

Record producer, Buddy Roro has dispelled assertions that Daddy Lumba flopped during the highlife legend’s performance at his own 51st birthday concert.

Rumours suggested that the hit maker’s performance was not only the issue for concern but the attendance at the National Theatre last Saturday.

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, , Roro who doubles as the leader of DL Super Band, the band that played for Daddy Lumba and publicist for the event said the pictures of attendance that went viral on social media were taken at the initial stage of the show. According to him, although the attendance during the early stages of the concert was low, it increased as the event went on.

“Our time for reporting at events is becoming a little problematic and needs to be addressed. Around 6.30pm, National Theatre, the band and everything was set; we were awaiting the people so we could start the show. But most of them came late so the pictures that were circulating on social media platforms at the time gospel musicians were performing showed that attendance was low. And that made people say the show was a flop. It was never the case. At the time Kofi Nti, KK Fosu and Daddy were performing, the auditorium was almost full to capacity. Attendance was good just that people didn’t come early,” he explained.

“We were overwhelmed with the attendance though the auditorium was not full. We were surprised because it took us just two-three days to organise the event. It wasn’t so much of a planned event. Daddy Lumba came out with the idea that he hadn’t celebrated his birthday before and wanted to have time with his fans. It was okay,” he said.

On Daddy Lumba’s performance on the night, Roro described it as ‘hot’.

“It was super. Daddy was hot. His performance was great. During VGMAs, Daddy was not so fit and that affected his performance on stage. Comparing that performance to that of Saturday, I will say it was very good,” the sound engineer said.
