Second edition of National Theatre Festival launched

The theme for this year’s festival is "Creative Arts: Re-thinking the Contemporary."

The National Theatre of Ghana and its resident companies will present a  seven- day festival of classical and contemporary live-stage and televised performances at this year’s Ghana Theatre Festival slated for  Monday,  October 12 to  Sunday, October 18  at the National Theatre.

The festival would be a follow up to the maiden edition last year which brought together many theatre and performing arts groups for a series of performances.

The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Creative Arts: Re-thinking the Contemporary.’

The festival will also embrace outreach programmes to schools, National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) student film screenings; furniture fair show and training workshops for young artistes in marketing and financing of artistic works.

From October 12 to October 14, the resident groups of the National Theatre, made up of the National Dance Company, the National Drama Company and the National Symphony Orchestra will embark on outreach programmes to some selected Senior High Schools within the Accra Metropolis.

Also on Wednesday, October 14 the National Drama Company will showcase Ananse in the Land of Idiots, a play written by Yaw Asare and directed by Dr. Grace Adinku at 2:00pm in the Main Auditorium of the National Theatre.

The official opening ceremony for the festival is on Thursday, October, 15 at 10:00am.

It will be followed by a marketing workshop for young artistes, courtesy Uncle Ebo Whyte of Roverman Productions.
