The situation has compelled some school authorities to convert dining halls and in some cases uncompleted classroom blocks into dormitories, to accommodate students whilst others are forced to lie on the floor due to unavailable beds.

Klo-Agogo Senior High School at Yilo Krobo in the Eastern Region is one of such schools where students are compelled to pack themselves like sardines in the dormitories.
According to reports by Accra-based Joy FM, a bed meant to accommodate one student now accommodate two or more students.
The implementation of the free SHS has worsened the situation compelling students to sleep.
They are exposed to mosquitoes on the veranda.

A 12-unit storey classroom block abandoned by a contractor some years ago has also been converted into a dormitory.
A female student said they are suffering.
"We are piled like sardines; even the prisoners they are feeling better than us. We are really suffering," she said.
