Asantehene announces reward package for Prempeh College team

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has announced an education support package for Prempeh College, the winners of the 2017 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The package is expected to take effect when the two students get to the tertiary level.

The details of the package are not known, but four teachers who played significant roles towards the victory will receive GH¢5,000 from the Asantehene.

Otumfuo disclosed this when authorities and students presented their trophy to him at the Manhyia Palace.

They won the competition by garnering 53 points closely edging out Accra-based Saint Thomas Aquinas Senior High School who got 51 points. Defending champions Adisadel  College could only manage 31 points respectively to the disappointment of many.

Their victory means that Prempeh College has won the competition four times. The school has previously won the competition in 1994, 1996 and 2015. Ahead of the competition, Prempeh were highly tipped by netizens to win.

The contest was held at the National Theatre in Accra.
