A popular yet anonymous street artist widely referred to as Plastic Jesus has erected a sculpture as controversial as the person it depicts: Rap superstar Kanye West as religious figure Jesus Christ on the crucifix.

Located a block away from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland (where the Oscars will be held this Sunday, February 26), the sculpture, named 'False Idol', depicts Kanye West as Jesus wearing a crown of thorns while crucified on an imaginary cross, his hands nailed and all - except he sports some bling on his neck and a pair of 'Yeezus' sneakers on his foot.

Explaining the concept behind the piece, Plastic Jesus, a native of the U.K, told TheHollywood Reporter: "Kanye is a genius. He is a brilliant writer and producer, but we’ve built him up to a god-like idol.

“Look at what happened to him at the end of last year when he went into a mental facility suffering from anxiety, stress and, I think, depression.”
