According to report by Star Magazine report on July 1 Tom Cruise is allegedly leaving Scientology for the sake of his daughter, Suri... But can he just leave?

According to report by Star Magazine report on July 1 Tom Cruise is allegedly leaving Scientology for the sake of his daughter, Suri. But an high-level member of the church, Chris Shelton, says that the 52-year-old actor would have to ''disconnect'' from his family and older kids, and face ''massive consequences'' if he left.

''I don’t personally believe that Tom Cruise left the church,'' former high-ranking Scientology Sea Org. member Shelton says.

Adding that, ''For anyone who leaves the church of Scientology, there would be massive consequences. There are always consequences for leaving the church. The church has demonstrated that they have no qualms whatsoever about releasing so called confidential audits of members who leave. These audits are supposed to be confidential, but have been used against members, who are considered ‘ because they left the church.

''You have to remember — Tom has been part of the church since the 1980’s. That’s a long time. He has surrounded himself with Scientologists. If he left the church, he would have to ‘disconnect’ from the rest of his family who are in the church. That includes his older children, too.''

A source tells the site that Cruise 'alleged' decision to quit the church crossed his mind after a phone call with his adorable daughter.

“She was going on and on about her ballet class and how much she loves it. That’s when Tom realized he’s never seen her perform ballet and he started to tear up. It hit him that she’s growing up before his eyes and he’s not there to witness most of it. They talk on the phone and video chat, but it’s not the same,'' an insider told the mag.

Shelton then explains that Chris continued, ''It’s not as simple as just saying goodbye and walking away. Scientology is a cult and all about mind control. They lead you to believe that if you leave the church or if you continue to associate with people that leave the church that something terrible will happen to you. It’s all about mind control and fear. It doesn’t matter how intelligent you are, something being intelligent can actually work against you.''
