Ghanaian hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwame is advocating for the introduction of refresher courses for musicians.

This, he believes, will augment the level of knowledge of the musicians and uplift the music industry.

Speaking on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, , the ‘rap doctor’ suggested that universities should reassess the policy of restricting applicants to the music department based on their inability to pass Mathematics and Science.

He told show host, Abrantepa that these courses may not be directly related to the music as a course of study.

“There is something that goes on here [University of Ghana] that I believe if authorities reconsider, it would be of great help. Before you can come and study music, you must pass Science and Maths. It is a good idea but I think there should be refresher courses by the Department of Music for professional musicians who could not pass these courses to enrol. There are people who have not been to school before but do amazing music,” he said.

“From the academic point of view, if we put this system in place, it will help grow the level of knowledge in the music industry. Some of the things, I’m able to sit here and say them because I did applied music, classical guitar, philosophy of music at KNUST to understand the music. And on song writing level, I read Akan and linguistics so I had the opportunity to know them,” he added.

Okyeame Kwame is out with a new single which is on his album. The song features Lynx Entertainment's act MzVee.

Small Small, a track produced by Appietus is a fusion of Afrobeats, jazz, French pop and a bit of trap sounds. It was recorded live by the Patch Bay Band.
