Reports say, ace broadcaster Kwesi Kyei Dakwa (KKD) who is in Police custody for allegedly raping a 19-year-old will stay behind bars for one more week. The hearing for his bail application seeking his release on Wednesday, January 7, has been adjourned to January 13, 2015.

The court presided over by Justice Essel Mensah, adjourned the case because the prosecutor argued he received the bail application from KKD’s lawyers on Tuesday evening. The prosecutor’s request for more time to study the application was accepted by the judge.

Meanwhile the hearing of the substantive case against KKD for allegedly raping Ewureffe Orleans Thompson is scheduled for a District court in Accra on Thursday.

KKD has denied the rape allegations and said he had “consensual sex” with Ewureffe Orleans Thompson.

In his lawyer’s bail application for bail, he argued that the facts do not show “there was any physical or verbal threat of harm or physical restraint used to compel the victim to have sex with the accused, yet, the prosecution contends the use of force.”

He also said the security footage from the African Regent Hotel showed the Ghanaian celebrity, KKD, and the said victim of a rape, were captured on the hotel CCTV camera, kissing before and after the alleged incident.

But in the charge sheet, presented by the lawyer of Ewureffe, the incident happened in a suite at the African Regent Hotel on December 27, 2014 when the accused invited her to help him powder his face before a programme.

According to Ewureffe, she and her cousin were offered drinks, but they refused and sat down and while there, KKD “called the complainant to come and help him do make up in the washroom. The complainant obliged and entered the washroom leaving the two in the living room.”

The charge sheet further stated that “The accused forcibly had sex with the complainant in the washroom. A report was made to the Police and a medical report was issued to the complainant to attend hospital. When the Accused was arrested, he denied the offence and stated that the complainant gave her consent and that he did not force her. He is, however, charged with the offence before this court."
