Explaining why he was present at the event, David said he never mentioned that he was against the vigil rather, the insults that came with the protest.

David Oscar at dumsor vigil

Stand-up comedian, David Oscar made a U-turn as he took part in the ‘Dumsor vigil’ to protest the government’s handling of the power crisis in the country.

He had earlier posted on Facebook that he will not be hypocritical to join the #dumsormuststop trend.

“I'm not even gonna be hypocritical and join the ‬‬trend. How many of us have tried to conserve energy? Thanks to our waste, the dams are suffering. Don't get me wrong, I'm a mindless critic of the president JDM, and I understand that there are alternative sources of energy, but do you think that if it was that easy to fix the power crisis, the president would not save himself the blames and constant harassment? As a nation, we happen to be fault seekers and less of vision implementers. Dumsor must stop, but your constant whining and whimpering would not act as a magic wand. Period!” he noted.

However, he turned up and joined other celebrities as they walked to the vigil grounds.

“The fact that I said I won’t be hypocritical to join a certain trend that had started on social media where people were using foul language, insulting the president about dumsor must stop. I thought that was not good….people were not patient to understand what I was trying to say, they just jumped into conclusion and some of the media also twisted the whole story and people started insulting and so I seized making sense to people. I never said I wasn’t going to come for this vigil. I only said I wasn’t going to jump on a certain trend where people were being too insulting”, he told citifmonline.com

The #dumsormuststop vigil, championed by actress, Yvonne Nelson was a non-partisan event which sought to give an amplified voice of the many Ghanaians who are afflicted by the phenomenon of the current power cuts in the country.
