President John Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya in the Eastern region on Thursday, December 29, 2016.
The establishment of the university would be in fulfillment of President Mahama’s 2012 campaign promise to establish a public university in the Eastern Region with the main Campus at Somanya, and a satellite campus in Donkorkrom.

The university which is envisaged to operate as a multi-campus becomes the second public university to run such a system after University for Development Studies (UDS).

The loan is an agreement between Government of Ghana and Deutsche Bank.
