President John Mahama has attended the 22nd National Best Teacher Awards ceremony in the Brong Ahfo region.

The awards scheme aims to reward excellence, professionalism and dedication to the teaching profession as well as the complementary role played by the non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for quality education delivery.

The Awards ceremony is on the theme: ‘Valuing Teachers, Improving Their Status’.

A total of seventy-two (72) serving teachers, twenty (20) retired teachers, ten (10) National Service Personnel and three (3) foreign volunteers benefited from this year’s package.

President Mahama urged teachers to reflect on their roles and responsibilities as government continued to make the right investment to improve their image.

He said education is key to personal and national development, hence children, who are assets for national development deserve quality education.

Teachers’ Day takes place every year on October 5 and celebrated with the aim of highlighting the essential role of teachers in providing quality education at all levels, and to promote international standards for the teaching profession.
