One of the very important things people do not consider before attending a tertiary institution is security. Most people are too happy they gained admission, they forget that. Here are some security questions you should get answers to before attending the institutions.

Congratulations! you have gained admission to the university. All is set for you to go start the process of earning a degree.

But did you consider the level of security in the school? Did check on their security consciousness before entering. Pulse.com.gh has put together a list of questions you should ask on security before you finally accept the attend that university.

1. What is the college doing to for students to have a safe campus?

All parents and students alike want to live and study on a safe campus. Universities are therefore required to make safety on their campuses a priority too.

Research has shown that a heightened awareness on safety from all stakeholders of the university compels the authorities to give security a priority on their campus.

2. What is the school's emergency plan?

Different methods are used by institutions during an emergency. Some of these include the use of sirens, emails, texts, display signs on campus among others to alert students during an emergency. It is also encouraged that universities have a plan to alert students and other stakeholders when they do not have access to internet or cell phones.

3. How will you be protected during a natural disaster?

Schools should explain to parents and students their level of preparedness in case a natural disaster occurs. The school should coordinate with local authorities such as local authorities, such as police and fire department. What evacuation plans are in place and how often their systems and safety plans are tested, security experts say. The school must be ready to educate its students on its emergency management plans.

4. What is the university’s stance on sexual assault or sexual harassment within their premises?

Students must be educated on whom to report issues of sexual violence to in the school for disciplinary actions to be taken. The procedures used by the school to provide confidentiality for the accuser and also to ensure a proper investigation is carried out must be readily known by all stakeholders.

5. Does the school educate students about safety?

How much effort is the school putting into educating students on their personal safety? Are the schools teaching the students how to step in when they see another student in trouble? Support from campus leaders and administrators is necessary for prevention programs to be effective and successfully influence the campus culture.

6. Is there a transportation service frequently used by students provided by the school?

Some schools have a transportation arrangement with either transport services to convey their students to and from campus. In others schools, the institutions run a bus shuttle system until lectures end on campus. Students should know the service's operating hours and how far outside campus it picks up students.
