MP supports sale of school land for shopping mall

Students of the Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping have recently demonstrated over what they argue is an illegal sale of their land to a private developer.

A Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Forestry, Albert Abongo, has condemned recent demonstrations by students of the Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping over what they argue is an illegal sale of their land to a private developer.

According to the students, the Lands Commission failed to consult them before selling the land to some foreign investors to build a shopping mall.

They have since embarked on two separate demonstrations and have petitioned Parliament on the intended sale.

But the MP, Albert Adongo has described the arguments by the students as baseless.

Describing the Lands Commission’s move as a good initiative, he said the Commission will accommodate students in one of its facilities after they are relocated.

“I believe that it is quite a good idea and I know the Lands Commission is making an alternative arrangement for the school to be located in one of their facilities around Elwak area; so I don’t know what their problem really is. If you look at that area, is quite a vast land and the Lands Commission is proposing to have a one-stop centre for all land issues and that is a very good idea,” the MP added.
