Teacher motivation allowance abolished

The allowance was levied on students at the senior high school level, but that will no longer be charged from the next academic term.

Minister of Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman

Government said it has abolished teacher motivation allowance.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education Francis Gbadago speaking to Starr FM said, "We have realised over the period that the purpose for which this teacher motivation allowance was introduced has outlived its importance."

"We think that at this point in time, it is important for us to review the process; when you go to the hospital you don’t expect to be charged doctors’ motivation fee.

"We think that at this point in time, when we take out that particular segment of payment from the fees, it will be a significant relieve for our parents who have always complained about the payment of that particular teacher motivation fee," he added.

Mr. Gbadago, however, cautioned teachers at the basic school level against charging such similar fees from students.
