BECE candidates without placement to select own schools

The National Coordinator of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Mr Kwasi Anokye said the students will be able to choose from a list of schools that would be displayed at the regional and district education offices as well as the headquarters of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to him, the affected candidates were those with low raw scores who were not able to compete with other candidates.

He added that students whose BECE results were released only last week by the West African Examinations Council (BECE) could also choose from the list of schools that would be made available.

“We just got new data from WAEC on some candidates last week. Unfortunately, these candidates cannot be placed in their first choice schools because all the top schools are full,” he said, adding that: “these candidates were among those whose results were withheld by WAEC”.

“We want every candidate to be placed and this falls under the mopping up exercise,” he told the Daily Graphic.

He said circulars accompanied by the list of schools with vacancies available would be sent to the various education offices this week.

A total of 437,958 BECE candidates out of 456,398 have so far been placed in SHSs and TIs across the country.
