USAG petitions Presidency over UTAG’s unpaid book and research allowances

The lecturers embarked on strike in August to protest government’s failure to pay the allowances.

The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) has petitioned the Presidency over delays in paying book and research allowances of lecturers.

They rescinded their decision to abandon posts following assurances from government that the allowances will be paid.

But government has reneged on that promise.

USAG President Henry Boakye told Starr News government has been unfair to their lecturers.

“If UTAG goes on strike, it is we the students who suffer and sometimes they go for about a month and more and that frustrates the academic calendar. When they come back, they then have to rush us through the curriculum and that is not helpful to us.

“Moreover, it is we the students who pleaded with them to come to class and they listened to us in good heart so we cannot stand aside and watch them go through the struggle alone. So it is for this reason that we deem it very appropriate to remind government to fulfill its obligations,” the fumed.
