"I respect everyone, but fear no one" – Amoabeng shares success story

Amoabeng has extensive experience in managing businesses through excellent customer relations, strategic and tactical business planning as well as strategic partnerships.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, former Chief Executive Officer of UT Bank and the President of UT Holdings has advised the youth to “respect everybody, but fear no one” in their quest to achieve success and be great entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the Vodafone X-Men Tour at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr. Amoabeng told the students the first rule of his success story was saving.

“Everyone can be an entrepreneur but to be a successful entrepreneur, the first thing to do is to start saving,” he encouraged the students.

He also revealed achieving success in whatever field one finds him/her self requires frantic efforts at emerging tops at whatever you find yourself studying or doing. “Make sure you first study hard; come tops in whatever course you studying.”

The three time Ghana’s Most Respected CEO  [ 2008/2010/2012] further inspired the students that to achieve success in life they have to rest time and make sure they spend the quality of time in everything they do. “ I want to say time is everything not money; in actual sense time is money.”

He retired from his UT Bank chief executive role in December 2015.

He also talked about how as Ghanaians we all need to work and ensure our institutions are empowered  and respected.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng conceptualized the idea of setting up a ‘finance house’ to provide timely and appropriate finance for businessmen like himself who found it almost impossible to get such assistance from the traditional banking sector.

With friends urging him on, he took the plunge, and with co-founder and Chairman of the company, Mr Joseph Nsonamoah, they registered it initially as Best Financial Services, and then later, upon advice from the Bank of Ghana, changed the name to Unique Trust Financial Services (Now UT Bank).

In a short, but eventful span of some 15 years, raising an initial 255 million cedis(25,000 Ghana cedis) as seed money, and staff of 3 operating from a tiny office at Kantamanto in the Central Business District in Accra, UT is now a Bank with a huge turnover and employees over 2000 people with presence  in seven of the ten regions of Ghana.

The Vodafone X-Men programme is an initiative that seeks to tell and highlight the business and success stories of distinguished personalities in Ghana with the youth and young aspiring business people.
