A statement issued in Accra and signed by the deputy managing director Ing.John Awuku Dzuazah indicated that, “in our bid to restructure the operations of the company and as a goodwill to cherished customers, the governing board and management wishes to inform customers and the general public that in spite of the current fuel increment, transport fare charges by the intercity STC coaches Limited (ISTC) remains unchanged”.

This comes after the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council sanctioned a 15% increase in transport fares effective February 1, 2016.

According to the executives of the transport operators the increase was necessitated by the between 18 and 33% increase in fuel prices following the implementation of the energy sector levies Act on January 1, 2016.

This was also part of the policy of the transport review committee to review transport fares bi-annually , that is January and June every year.

The increment has since generated some criticisms from the National Petroleum Authority and the Transport ministry both calling for a reduction in the fares.
