The Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) is leading the automation drive.

The General Manager of GCNet, Alwin Hoegerle in an interview with Accra-based Starr FM said when the system is automated, it will make it possible to conduct business online.

“We have fully automated the processes and changed a lot of the business process themselves to try and make it short and streamline it. We have deployed for them a portal so you can conduct your business online. For example, to make your annual returns, you can check whether your company’s  name has been taken or not…you can even pay your fees on line. And provided all your legal documents are there, then within 24-hours you can get your company,” he said.

The Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia paid a surprise visit to the Registrar General’s Department on Wednesday, (January 18, 2017) to familiarise himself with the challenges facing the State outfit.

During his visit, he met with the Registrar General, the staff of the Department and ordinary Ghanaians who had gone to register their businesses.

The people who had come to register their businesses expressed their displeasure at the “bureaucratic processes” in registering their establishments.

Dr Bawumia said the NPP government is bent on making Ghana a “business-friendly country”. He observed that such a vision must start with a smooth registering process at the Registrar-General’s Department.

A number of requirements needed for business registration are being cut to facilitate the move. The payment system of the department and that of the domestic tax unit of the GRA are being converged.

The move is one of the topmost aims of the agency this year.
