The Mahama-led administration has announced plans to make Ghana’s Railway sector a subsidiary of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.
President Mahama revealed this at the sod cutting ceremony for the expansion project on Wednesday in Accra.
President Mahama said this plan is to coordinate activities in the transport sector.

In times past the railway industry played a key role in the growth and development of the Ports in the country. The railway industry helped convey goods from the shores to the inland areas. Currently many believe the synergy that existed between the two industries has been lost.

President Mahama said the expansion project will bring about the previous services both industries rendered to each other in times past.
Meanwhile, President Mahama praised the GPHA for its ability to fund the expansion of the Tema port on the company’s own balance sheet.
