Govt. workers get 10% pay rise; Minimum wage gets 14.5%

The increment comes after several months of negotiations between members of the tripartite committee made up of government, the Employers' Association and Labour and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

 

All public sector workers will enjoy a 10 percent salary increase effective January 2016, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Haruna Iddrisu has confirmed.

Meanwhile, Minister of Employment, Haruna Idrisu has announced that the country's  minimum wage has been increased from seven cedis to eight cedis.

This increment  represents a 14.3 per cent rise in public workers' pay will take effect in January 2016, Labour and Employment Minister Haruna Iddrisu.

There is also a ten per cent hike in public sector salaries which will also take effect same date.

The increase follows weeks of negotiations between members of the tripartite committee made up of government, the Employers' Association and Labour.

He added government will be cross-checking to ensure that no Ghanaian worker is paid below the minimum wage.

He said for the first time the Tripartite Committee negotiated a new minimum wage before the reading of the budget statement in November.

"It does give the Finance Minister an opportunity for effective planning in the 2016 financial year," he intimated.

The minister also said government has concluded negotiations with Labour on category 2 and 3 allowances for public sector workers who are on the single spine salary structure.
