In March, the President of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) Terry Darko told journalists in Accra legitimate textile companies in Ghana are struggling to compete with counterfeit and pirated goods circulating in the local market.

He said the situation is impacting negatively on employers and is stifling innovation and creativity.

“In recent times, counterfeiting and illicit trade in Ghana have heightened competition, as legitimate businesses cannot compete with pirates who take a free ride on the work of others without contributing to research, development, or social cost of their workers,” he said.
