GridCo confirms nationwide power outage

At about 9:40pm on Wednesday (May 3, 2017) Ghana experienced a nationwide blackout. Many Ghanaians took to social media to comment on the development.

This was confirmed by the Chief Executive of GridCo, William Amuna.

The Nana Addo-led government has also faced some attacks especially after they criticised the then Mahama administration for dumsor.

Meanwhile, Mr Amuna said that power has been restored to about 70 percent areas in the country after a nationwide blackout on Wednesday (May 3, 2017).

Speaking to Accra-based Joy FM the Chief Executive of GridCo, William Amuna said “right now, about 70% power has been restored. Hopefully, full power will be restored by 10am.”

Mr Amuna said that the power outage was an emergency.

“We don't know what exactly caused the power outage, but we are investigating. There has not been a situation that demands that we shed load. This power outage was an emergency.”

“There was a fault with national supply which cause all the regions to lose power at about 9:40pm.” he added.
