We need trade not aid, Ghana's vice-president tells world leaders

During the summit, the vice president also spoke about the potential of technology in helping scale upwards the development of Ghana and the rest of the continent.

Dr Bawumia is in the Emirati city of Dubai, representing the country at the fifth World Government Summit. He was speaking on the topic, Leapfrogging Developments: The African Story.

He tweeted the remarks on his official Twitter account: “The government of President Nana Akufo-Addo wants a relationship with the world driven more by trade than aid.”

He said: The potential for leveraging technology for growth in Africa is huge. We need to tap it urgently. Africa has to understand that the process of leapfrogging must be homegrown and implemented in full.

At the summit, he co-chaired a discussion with the President of Guinea, Alpha Conde.
