Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications has called upon Chinese investors in the country especially those in the field of Information Technology to utilize the opportunity provided by the ‘One District- One Factory’ initiative by funding projects in it.

According to the Minister, a lot of the electronic gadgets patronized by Ghanaians are made in China and it would benefit both the country and the investors if they came to establish more of such companies in Ghana.

“Moving on, we want you to also come and establish companies here taking advantage of the one-district, one-factory flagship program of this government,” she urged the Chinese investors.

She made the statement when addressing staff of Chinese Tech conglomerate, Huawei Technologies and other people from the Chinese embassy at the ministry.

This was during the launch of Huawei’s ‘Seed of the Future’, a youth dedicated program to train young people from the country in technology. In its third edition, the program would include 15 bright Ghanaian students selected from four universities traveling to the headquarters of the company in Beijing to receive professional IT training from experts in China.

Mrs. Ursula Owusu said she was confident that young Ghanaians are full of innovative ideas and are capable of fueling these companies with the skills they’d need to grow them.

The Minister also lauded Huawei for their pace-setting role in digitization in the country and admonished other companies to follow in their step to further strengthen the friendly relations between both nations. Mr. Jiang Zhouteng, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Ghana expressed China’s commitment to innovation and ICT as it’s the country major developmental priority. “China’s economy still grows at a relatively high speed around six to seven per cent annually and one of the most important reasons for China’s development miracle, in my view, is that China highly values the spirit of innovation, which is extremely important in the ICT industry,” he explained.
