These fees would also see to the timely movement of vehicles that would have previously been on the road for several days or even months.

Motorbikes owners will pay GH¢10 annually while non-commercial vehicles are expected to pay GH¢20.

Commercial vehicles and taxis will pay GH¢40, mini buses will pay GH¢80, while heavy duty trucks will pay between GH¢80 and GH¢200 annually, depending on their tonnage.

Outcries from concerned citizens in the past have expressed a distaste for government’s inability to effectively roll out a towing service that would remove all broken-down vehicles on the highways.

Abandoned vehicles on the road are estimated to have amounted to 21 percent of deaths caused through road accident in 2016 alone.

“The technical expertise has been met and what we need is for the public to support this cost-effective way of handling it,” he said.

However, some Ghanaians are unhappy about the commission making the payment mandatory.According to such people, the fees should be made mandatory for only drivers whose cars have broken down and need to be tolled immediately.
